I recently moved a little over a month ago and it’s been taking me some time to get everything up. I only just got a shelf up with statues that had been sitting in my closet since I moved! And the last thing I finally did was get large picture frames to hang up drawings. I procured these drawings from the New York Comic Con, from an artist who was selling her pieces at her own table. They all worked together, various characters that needed to be hung together or it just didn’t make sense. And so I needed three frames that worked together, or one frame that could hold all three.

Once I got my large picture frames, I realized how much fun I could have arranging them. They didn’t have to just sit in a row, but could be placed slightly off from each other to make it interesting. I don’t know if I’ve ever had so much fun just arranging frames before.

And now my room feels complete, everything hung up as it should be. It feels more like my personal space and I can stop worrying about what else I have to do in the room, because it’s finally all done!

Hanging any picture frame is a task, let alone hanging the dauntingly large picture frames you may have. However, you do what you must, so here are some ways to make your decorating chore somewhat easier.

At hardware stores you may be able to ask an assistant for hangers, since the typical nails may not be enough for the heavier frames or artwork encased by the frame. Some hangers can hold up to 50 or 100 pounds of weight. That’s very impressive and chances are you will not be putting up anything that intense. The other thing is that they can be used on different material walls anywhere from drywall or wood to concrete.

Since you will probably want to get the metal or wooden picture frames up in one take, it is best to prepare before lifting it. Measure the height and length of the frame.  Write the measurements down and mark it on the back of the frame. Also, measure from the hanging wire to ensure it will be level with its hanger.Lastly, pick the spot on your wall and mark it.

Take the frame and place it centered where you want it to reside. Mark the edges on the wall and the center where the hanger will be nailed. Once you nail the hanger (or two if the frame is exceedingly heavy) you can comfortably put the frame on it.

Congrats! That is how you hang a big picture.

Anybody who grew up with siblings knows that the holiday photos were an interesting prospect. They never quite turned out the way our mother wanted. At least that was the case with my family photos. If my brother or sister wasn’t making a ridiculous face, then I was distracted and looking the complete other direction. Getting us all to look prim and proper was a task.

Keep in mind that whatever photos you have taken, be it by a family member or professional, the best of the bunch are going to hang over the mantelpiece. Unless you want to look shameful for a few months, you best get yourself together because those pictures will be in large picture frames for a long time, haunting you daily and nightly until they get replaced with equally terrible photos.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. Ignore your siblings’ taunts and insults. They’ll only make you scowl if you let it bother you.
  2. Avoid blinking and sneezing if possible. If you can’t, call time out so a photo isn’t wasted.
  3. Do NOT wear matching outfits. It’s creepy.

The one redeeming thing you can guarantee on is that whatever the outcome of the photo shoot, you are going to have it framed in a very nice wooden picture frame.

Wall decor is one of the most essential elements to the completion of a room. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Wall decor proves it. You can tell a lot about a person by the pictures they hang. Here are some design tips to help you hang the best pictures.

One simple starting tip for wall picture frames is always to start with the largest piece you have. Use it as your anchor or center and work around it as desired. The large picture frames act as the guideline. You can mark the space around them with a pencil while you hang each subsequent frame and erase the marks easily later.

Try non-traditional picture mounting or frames. There’s nothing wrong with adding a little interest or depth to the room. Frames that allow you to easily interchange the pictures within them are a blessing for the indecisive.

Your wall needs to be a little eclectic. Mix and match other wall décor around picture frames. Decorated plates, stencils, and canvas art add contrast to the wall but do not detract from the framed art or photos. Use uneven numbers in rows of pictures. Try scattering a few wooden picture frames slightly unevenly but in a pattern so it’s not haphazard.

For a unified theme, match the patterns of the art in the frames to the room. Use the color palette as inspiration. Try pairing the wall décor to other furniture or lighting. You can also reflect back the room by framing mirrors to add depth in small spaces. Do whatever it takes to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

Believe it or not you do not need the ultimate print art to decorate your walls. Something trendy you can do is to hang empty frames sans backing. Empty picture frames give shape to the color on the wall. They provide you an opportunity to do something different; something truly unique and creative.

People sometimes forget that negative space is just as important as filled space. When you decorate your room you want to strike a balance between busy spaces and open spaces- this applies to wall decor as well. Empty metal or wooden picture frames are one way to prevent a wall from looking boring without overdoing it.

You can take a simple wooden frame, mahogany or gold, and wrap it in lights. Hang it on the wall above a table, chair, or even a mantlepiece, because it needs something to anchor it. If you don’t want the lights, you can opt for ribbon. It acts as a soothing bedroom decoration.

Another option for bedrooms is to make a floating headboard out of large picture frames. This is often used in lieu of an actual headboard for modern and minimalist bed frames. You can add dramatic flair by hanging curtains along its side.

Hallways and staircases can use the “frame within a frame” design. Find two frames, one slightly larger than the other, and center the smaller one inside the other.

As for main rooms, you can use empty frames of different shapes and sizes to create a collage. They should hang above some kind of seating or mantle so there’s a focal point and they don’t look like they’re aimlessly floating in space.

There are creative things you can do with wood picture frames. For one, you can buy a bunch of them and create a wall collage of family memories. It’s a fantastic idea as surprise for family members. A simple black frame might be great for the black and white photos, whereas a mahogany frame looks nice with color photos.

Think of this creative endeavor like it’s a show on some snazzy new home improvement network or one of those talk show host’s brilliant “family gift ideas.” Emphasize the photo memories with a series of beautiful wall picture frames. Mix and match the photos in sections based on familial relations, or by year, or even by event type. There’s no limit to how you can put this together.

Another great option is to do some kind of family tree. You can feature the patriarchs and matriarchs of the family in large picture frames at the top, and decreasing in size hang smaller frames below for each generation. Add in a group photo somewhere at the very top or bottom with everybody should you feel like it. It’s one way to keep track of your family roots and it makes for a nice design.

large picture framesOne of my all-time favorite things to do is collect posters and artwork. I collect posters for movies, television shows, music, and more. The artwork I find is from my vacationing internationally. It’s a hobby of mine. Each poster, painting, and sketch tells a different story. They are a reminder of the things I have seen and the places I have been. They’re great to put up around the home. Especially the vintage looking pieces. Those look fantastic in the living room.

But, unfortunately these posters can get fairly large in proportion. Large picture frames are necessary to protect and hang them. Sometimes these frames can get expensive. However, you can find a great selection of discount picture frames at My Frame Store. They get their inventory directly from manufacturers so that they pass on the savings directly to you.

So, if you’re anything like me and you have an affinity for collecting art of all kinds then you know that getting frames is essential. The good part is that you don’t have to spend lots of money in order to protect them. You can comfortably collect and hang the masterpieces as you desire in whatever sized wooden picture frame you need.

wooden picture framesI recently took a trip to London, where I found a number of fine antique prints. As I had just moved into a new apartment, there was every inclination to buy a few to decorate. I chose two prints of Roman scenes and a map of New York, all more than a hundred years old. I carried the prints around with me, envisioning how fine they’d look in wooden picture frames hanging throughout my home.

Since they were so large, I had to roll them up and carry them, which was no easy task when backpacking through Europe. They sustained minor damage at the edges, which I was pretty disturbed by, and just as my plane was getting ready to take off I remembered I had left them on my seat in the terminal. I told the flight attendant since I was unable to get off the plane and she had one of the gate attendants bring the prints to me.

At home I started searching for wooden picture frames. I needed large picture frames, and not just any old ones, but wood picture frames that would make these prints look better than they already did. I found them at My Frame Store.

At one point or another you’re going to get caught posing for a family portrait. I know I did. That was way back in 1992. Those were the bad hair days. I remember my brother donning the mullet and my sister with her overly teased poofed out locks of doom. I still shudder at the thought of it. It was traumatizing to say the least.  My mother had us all stand together, fake the best smile we could, hold still for several shots and, once it was done, break out into our usual sibling rivalry.

I had all but forgotten about this until I saw my mom taking out the portrait from her closet a few days ago. It’s a big picture so it can only fit in exceedingly large picture frames of the same size. Now, I thought Mom would just look at the photo longing that things were still so simple but she dusted it off and sat it upright against her nightstand.

She then realized that the wooden frame it was currently placed in was outdated, old, and not looking so great. It was at this point I realized she intended to take this horrid picture of us and hang it on the wall. All it would take was a new frame. Our fates had been sealed.

wall picture framesA bare wall just doesn’t cut it in a living room or hallway. You want the room to be cozy and inviting. You can personalize the wall plenty of interesting ways using wall picture frames.

If you have a lot of family photos you want to showcase why don’t you make a wall collage? Take a few large picture frames with photos, find a spot on the wall,  and center them where you like. Take a few small picture frames and disperse them unevenly throughout. It will create an eclectic but eye-catching display.

If you’re not keen on displaying photos, you can always fill these frames with other things. Be creative. Take pieces of avant garde art or modern art you like and frame them. Maybe you have your own sketches or paintings you’re proud to display. These are all great options but sometimes they can seem quite stuffy. Movie posters and vinyl records are things that everybody can relate to. They’re also a way of expressing your other interests.

These are only a few of the many ways that you can use wall picture frames. There’s no reason you can’t think outside the box and do something completely different with them. Maybe even considering re-painting them. You can also stress metal frames.
